Frequently asked questions

Perhaps with answers...

What happens at a meeting of the reading group?

At each reading group, we talk about the paper (or rarely, papers) set for that meeting. Scott Keir, as the current chair of the reading group, keeps the conversation going but invites participation from everyone.

We will usually start by talking about the content of the paper - what does the author say and not say, how convincing are the arguments, etc. - and then broaden out the discussion, perhaps thinking about the context, the methods or the relevance. It's a friendly and informal space, and all are welcome.

I haven't had time to read the whole paper, can I still attend?

Yes, of course. You'll get the most benefit if you've read (or at least skimmed) the paper, but you're welcome to attend, listen to the discussion and join in where you can.

Can I suggest a paper to read?

Yes, suggestions are welcome. Please contact the chair of the reading group using the contact form on the front page.

If you have a query not answered above, please contact us.
